Arland Fiske will be the guest speaker at the Sons of Norway meeting at 7 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd.
The public is invited.
Fiske is a retired minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, most recently as senior pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot, N.D. He is the author of eight books with Scandinavian themes, including "The Best of the Norwegian Heritage," "Stories from the Swedish Heritage," "The Scandinavian World," "The Scandinavian Spirit" and "The Scandinavian Adventure."
He is a past president of Sons of Norway Thor Lodge 67 of Park Rapids, and was instrumental in forming the new lodge in Walker, Skogvannet 569.
Fiske, a native of Colfax, N.D., is a fourth generation Norwegian-American. He is a graduate of Oak Grove High School, Fargo, N.D.; Concordia College, Moorhead; and Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary, St. Paul. He has studied at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., and Swedish Covenant Hospital, Chicago, Ill.
Fiske's wife, Gerda, is a second generation Danish-American. They have made several visits to Scandinavia. The Fiskes live on Kabekona Lake near Laporte.
