ALEXANDRIA - Evan Reese won the 100- and 50-yard freestyles and Jared Anderson won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke to lead the Brainerd Warriors swimming and diving team to their third-straight Section 8-2A True Team Championship Saturday.
Brainerd racked up 1,400 points to top second-place Alexandria by 38 points.
"We were just pleased with how things went" said Warriors coach John Zemke. "We don't talk about big meets too much because then the kids start not believing you, but this is one of the meets we stress."
Reese, a freshman, and Anderson, a sophomore, teamed with sophomores Michael Brekken and Mike Ruen to win 200 medley relay in 1:47.00.
Evan Reese won the 100- and 50-yard freestyles
"Anderson's races went kind of how we expected them," Zemke said. "Evan's weren't. The sprinter from Elk River didn't swim the 50 and 100 and that left it open for him. He swam well on the back half of his races. In the 100 his last 50 were just incredible. It's fun to watch him swim because he can step it up a notch. Like Jared, Evan really hates to lose.
"Anderson won the breaststroke by 3/100ths of a second to remain unbeaten in that event."
The Warriors 400 free relay of Andrew Goll, Reese, Ruen and Anderson finished second behind Alexandria in 3:31.93
Ruen placed third in the 100 butterfly and Goll was third in the 500 free for Brainerd.
The time drop of the event was Jacob Larson in the 200 free. He entered the meet with a season best of 2:10. He swam in 2:05 to finish 14th.
"We didn't expect that," Zemke said. "In the 200 free you can get a second drop, but five seconds is pretty unbelievable. That was the second race of the meet so that really got the guys charged up and he really stepped it up a notch. There were a lot of little surprises in the meet from our team, but none as big as Jacob."
