Jazz trombone player to perform in Staples

STAPLES -- Jazz trombone player John Fedchock will be a featured performer in a Tribute to Woody Herman, with the Sophisticated Swing Band, at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at Centennial Auditorium in Staples.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students in advance at the Centennial Auditorium Box Office in Staples, (218) 894-5416.

The Sophisticated Swing Band is a 26-year-old, 18-piece area swing band, conducted by Lars Nelson. Nelson calls Fedchock, "Today's hottest jazz trombone superstar." In addition to the concert, he also will conduct a clinic for area school jazz bands from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the auditorium.

Fedchock, who is from New York City, is music director of the legendary Woody Herman Band and leader of the John Fedchock New York Big Band. He will appear courtesy of a Five Wing Arts Council grant.
