20 years ago (1984)

An outline of plans for a $10.2 million expansion at the Westgate Mall received a warm reception at the Baxter City Council meeting. "Baxter will do everything it can to make the project go," Mayor Jon Main said.

30 years ago (1974)

A massive power outage early this morning plunged north and northeast Brainerd into Darkness, caused the Northwest Paper Company to shut down, the hospital to go on auxiliary power and touched off both fire and burglar alarms.

40 years ago (1964)

Announcement has been made by Mrs. Corna Lagerquist, executive secretary of the Crow Wing County Chapter, American Red Cross, that plans are being made to inaugurate a home nursing service in this area by the chapter.

60 years ago (1944)

Brainerd's Warriors were ahead only once during the game with Bemidji, but it was enough, as Chuck Warnberg dropped in a bucket with 25 seconds left to play to give the Warriors a thrilling 32-36 victory over the Lumberjacks at Bemidji.

80 years ago (1924)

The annual meeting of the Brainerd Country Club will be held Friday evening. The Brainerd Country Club is closing a most successful season and looks forward to even greater achievements during 1924.

100 years ago (1904)

Manager Walker is to be congratulated for having secured the "Kilties" band for a concert at the Brainerd Opera House next Monday. The "Kilties" have been enthusiastically received in nearly every large city in America.
