Man killed by falling tree

A 52-year-old man died Wednesday after a tree he was cutting hit him, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department reported.
Adrian Philip Kowalzek of Lastrup was cutting trees sometime before 11:30 a.m. at property on Crow Wing County Road 159, northeast of Brainerd, when a tree he had cut fell and hit him.
Crow Wing County Sheriff's Sgt. Todd Dahl said it appeared the tree Kowalzek was cutting collided with another tree as it fell, spun and hit him in the head. A friend called 911 about 11:39 a.m.
Along with the sheriff's department, the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Ambulance Service and First Responders assisted at the scene.
