Darrell Brent Sanderson, 33, of the Brainerd area, died early Monday morning when the pickup he was a passenger in collided with a parked logging truck on Highway 2 in Bayfield County, Wisconsin.
Sheriff Bob Follis said the driver of the pickup was Bobby Lee Aspros, 31, of Pillager. Aspros was transported to a hospital in Duluth with possible internal injuries.
The driver of the logging truck, which had developed fuel problems and was parked along the side of the road with its flashers on, was Donald Lenz of Glidden, Wis.
Follis said the road was dry. Aspros was wearing a seat belt and was protected by an air bag. Sanderson, who was believed to be asleep at the time of the accident, was not wearing a seat belt. Follis said it appeared that Sanderson died instantly.
Arrangements for Sanderson are with Shelley Funeral Home in Little Falls.
Walz co-authors five priority bills
Rep. Dale Walz, R-Brainerd, is co-authoring five priority bills that were House priorities last year but were unsuccessful in the Senate. The bills address issues such as transportation funding, economic development, prescription drug affordability and home security.
One bill would formalize a policy that has been put into place by an administrative ruling, to match the driver's license expiration date with a foreign visitor's non-resident visa expiration date.
Walz is also co-sponsoring a bill creating a new prescription drug program for qualified applicants.
