PEQUOT LAKES - Carrol Derksen, 70, of Pequot Lakes, Minn., passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, in Terre Haute, Ind., after a courageous battle with cancer. Private family services will be held with inurnment at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, Minn.
Carrol Ann Derksen was born to William and Ouida (Wilson) McPherson on Jan. 15, 1939, in Vancouver, Wash. She grew up in Vancouver before moving to California then on to Minnesota. She and Avery (Derk) set up a second home in Center Point, Ind. Carrol was united in marriage to Avery Derksen on Aug. 15, 1958, in Las Vegas. After moving to Pequot Lakes, Minn., in 1969, she was the church secretary for Our Savior's Lutheran and ran a fabric/quilt shop in Pequot, The Crab Apple. Her hobbies were quilting, sewing, her home, and most important, her family.
Carrol is survived by Avery, her beloved husband, best friend and companion of 51 years; her daughters, Catherine (Rick) Meyer, of East Gull Lake, Minn., and Janet (John) Poland-Stevenson, of Center Point, Ind.; son, Larry (Kathryn) Derksen, of Jacobson, Minn.; grandchildren, Jessica (RJ) Cameron-Rudd, Aaron (Michelle) Poland, Mathias Derksen, Ryan Cameron and Stephanie Derksen; great-grandchildren, Gage and Makayla Poland; and her beloved dog, Mattie. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are preferred to Vista Care, 3401 South Fourth St., Terre Haute, IN 47802.
