Dorothy L. Straka, 76, resident of Brainerd, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at St. Joseph's Medical Center. She was born on June 6, 1927, in Minneapolis to the late John and Evva (Thompson) Kasprick. They moved to Brainerd in 1930 and lived on North Long Lake. She married Joseph P. Straka on June 10, 1947, at St. Francis Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, was past president of the guild for many years, past president of the Professional Secretaries Association and was secretary of the year. She worked at Crow Wing County Welfare office, Stegner, Hendrickson and McNutt, and Scorpion and Erickson's law office.
She is survived by her husband Joseph; two sons John (Melodee) of Duluth, and David (Pamela) of Brainerd; two sisters, Marian (Jack) Jelacie of Brainerd, and Carol (Bill) Johnson of Pine River; a grandson Jonathon; a granddaughter Jocelyn, both of Hinckley; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16 at St. Francis Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley. Visitation times are from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
