Two-faced, playing both sides
Nice guy Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, one of the most vocal, gung-ho cheerleaders for starting and waging an aggressive war on Iraq, met the Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein, back in 1983 to help that country obtain biological and chemical weapons components, including primitive anthrax and bubonic plague cultures from the U.S. manufacturers per The London Times. The 90-minute meeting, captured on video, between Rumsfeld and Hussein, marked the beginnings of a U.S. policy under Reagan and Vice President Bush Sr. to back Iraq in its war against Iran.
Even though I don't agree with (Jim) Dehen on most decisions he has made as a city council member, I do think he should be the president of the council. On the other hand, council member (Gary) Scheeler has never been elected by the people of Brainerd so he wasn't qualified to take on this role and doesn't seem to have the skills to be a president in the first place, let alone a council member. Dehen does. Additionally, it seems (Kelly) Bevans is just another clown added to the circus of this council. Hopefully in a few years, we will have new leadership in Brainerd.
I was wondering if the Brainerd School District still has the zero tolerance on violence or is that just at some schools and not others. My daughter was punched in the nose one day and nothing was done. I'm wondering how many other parents would be upset about this kind of thing. Is it OK if kids get hit and hurt or not?
The Jan. 9 news article states the Brainerd School Board's Finance Committee recommends to sign a 10-year lease for warehouse space when the warehouse at the high school will be remodeled. The article states 12,052 square feet can be leased for $5,574 per month. That's $66,888 annually for a facility less than 110 feet by 110 feet. Is that the going rate? Does BN railroad shops have space? Why a 10-year lease? Surely there would be enough room in Washington School for storage once it's vacated by students in 2004-05. The school's business manager says he can't levy for the dollars until 2004. Unless the school board finds a cheaper alternative, taxes are going up even higher.
