PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- It looks like Julianna Margulies may have to exit ''ER'' without George Clooney as her escort.
''I don't know that it's necessarily smart for me to come back for one scene and scoop Julianna up and walk out,'' Clooney said Wednesday when asked if he might appear once more.
Meanwhile, Kellie Martin announced Thursday that she is leaving the show at the end of the season. Martin plays medical student Lucy Knight.
''With all of the changes in the show and the direction of Lucy's character, it seems like a good time to move on and take advantage of other opportunities,'' Ms. Martin said, without elaborating.
NBC said it did not know how the character would be written out. Ms. Martin, who starred in the series ''Life Goes On'' and ''Christy,'' did not detail her post-''ER'' plans.
Letterman to undergo heart tests
NEW YORK (AP) -- Funnyman David Letterman suddenly turned serious during a taping of his talk show, telling audience members and guest Regis Philbin that he will be undergoing a test for possible heart disease.
Letterman, 52, was to undergo an angiogram today at an undisclosed hospital in New York. In an angiogram, a flexible catheter is inserted into an artery and guided to the area of the heart, then dye is injected into the catheter and an X-ray film is made of heart function.
The host of CBS' ''Late Night'' program revealed the news during a taping on Thursday of a show set to air tonight, the Daily News reported today.
The test ''could result in a clean bill of health, medication or other procedures,'' Letterman spokesman Howard Rubenstein said. Letterman will have the angiogram performed because ''he thought it prudent to do this now as a precaution,'' Rubenstein added.
Letterman said the worst-case scenario would be to ''open daddy's rib cage ... and I don't want that.''
The host began by asking Philbin about his own successful emergency angioplasty in 1993.
''The reason I'm bringing this up is that I have very high cholesterol, and I also have a history of this,'' Letterman said. Letterman's father died of a heart attack in his 50s, the newspaper said.
After the taping, Philbin said he was surprised by the news. ''He sprang it on me,'' Philbin said. ''You never know if he's kidding or not, but it became clear he was serious.''
Combs indicted for gun incident
NEW YORK (AP) -- Grammy-winning rapper Sean ''Puffy'' Combs denied charges that he had two stolen guns in his car as he fled a nightclub where three people were wounded in a shooting.
One gun was found by police in the sport utility vehicle, and the other was thrown out of the vehicle, prosecutors said.
Combs and girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were arrested after they drove away from the Club NY, where the shooting happened Dec. 27.
Two of Combs' associates were also named in Thursday's indictment: rapper Jamal ''Shyne'' Barrow on attempted murder charges, and bodyguard Anthony Jones on a weapons charge.
Combs, 30, could get up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
''The decision to indict me is wrong,'' Combs said in a statement. ''I'm innocent and we will prove it.''
Combs was charged with possession of a pistol found in the car, and with possession of another stolen pistol that was thrown from the vehicle, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said.
