Crow Wing Soil, Water services listed
The following services are available from the Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation Service:
Landowners with 20 or more tracts of woodland, preferably along lakes, rivers or wetlands, are eligible for the Forest Stewardship Program.
In this program a forester works with the landowner to provide management strategies based on their goals. These goals could include such activities as timber harvest, wildlife enhancement, tree planting, recreation, etc.
In addition, landowners receive a reference binder containing an assortment of information regarding tree species, wildlife, disease and insects, and more. Landowners who participate may be eligible for cost share programs.
These plans are a free service from the Crow Wing SWCD and the Crow Wing County Water Plan.
The Crow Wing SWCD is currently taking orders for its annual tree sale. More than two dozen native species of trees and woody shrubs are being offered in packages of 25, 250 and 500 seedlings, and range in size from six inches to 3 feet.
These bare root seedlings are for conservation purposes such as windbreaks, wildlife, reforestation and erosion control. They are not to be planted for ornamental purposes, nor can they be resold, given away or removed with the roots attached for a period of 10 years from date of purchase.
For more information on these programs contact the Crow Wing SWCD at 828-6197, or stop by at 512 C St., Brainerd (the USDA building).
