20 years ago (1980)

Kermit Aase, former Brainerd High School athletic director, hooked a 10-4 walleye at Gull Lake in 34 feet of water, using a golden shiner minnow.

30 years ago (1970)

Brainerd now has had five snowmobile derbies and expects to have many more. The first five derbies have shown growth every year with this year's event attracting a record 700 entries and a two-day crowd of 12,000 to 14,000 persons.

40 years ago (1960)

Brainerd and Nisswa will get new telephone numbering systems consisting entirely of numerals next summer. The new plan, called all number calling, provides for telephone numbers composed of seven numerals.

60 years ago (1940)

Joe Marchel, Brainerd youth who started to tour the world only to wind up in the European war, will show and tell what he saw of Europe's war-torn nations in a program at the Washington High School.

80 years ago (1920)

-- Miss Minnie Fox is very sick at Northwestern Hospital.

-- Cass County has reduced its tax levy for the year. It is 34/100ths less than last year.

100 years ago (1900)

A gentle rain laid the dust on Monday which had been very disagreeable for a day or two owing to high winds.
