"The Early Childhood Investment," a free public forum at Central Lakes College on Jan. 18, will examine the educational and economic benefits of early childhood education.
Rob Grunewald of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis is the featured speaker for the event that will be noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Dryden Theatre on the Brainerd campus. It is hosted by the Gordon Rosenmeier Center for State and Local Government.
Grunewald conducts regional economic research and is a co-author of the Minneapolis Fed's "Beige Book" report on current economic conditions. He also writes articles on the regional economy and other economics and banking issues for the Fedgazette and The Region, two periodicals published by the Minneapolis Fed.
He co-authored "Early Childhood Development: Economic Development with a High Public Return" in 2003. This economic policy paper has been featured in media, legislative hearings and seminars throughout the United States.
The forum starts after an 11:30 a.m. coffee and conversation time, with introductions and background at 11:55 a.m. and Grunewald's presentation from noon to 12:45 p.m. A panel will respond to Grunewald's presentation from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m., at which time the audience will be invited to participate.
