STAPLES -- A 69-year-old Staples man was shot and wounded today in what police are considering a possible road rage situation, according to Staples Police Chief Kyle Huber.
Staples police were called at 6:37 a.m. today by Greater Staples Hospital, which reported treating a man with gunshot wounds.
Police said the victim indicated he followed a vehicle for one block after the pickup had drove through a stop sign. At the next stop sign in northeast Staples, both men exited their vehicles.
The suspect, a 31-year-old Staples man, shot at the victim hitting him with two or more bullets. The victim then drove himself to the hospital. Huber declined to comment on the type of gun involved.
About an hour later, police with Todd County sheriff's deputies arrested the suspect as his place of employment. He is being questioned and detained at the Todd County Detention Center.
The victim was transferred to St. Cloud Hospital. His name and condition were not available from Staples police.
Huber said he did not believe the two men were acquainted.
He declined to yet comment as to what charges the suspect is being held.
Assisting Staples police and Todd County authorities with this investigation are the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the State Patrol.
