Save spots for those who need them

Posted: Thursday, January 10, 2008

Hey Brainerd-Baxter, want to increase your revenue? Each patrol car could go through parking lots of bigger businesses and ticket the numerous cars parked in handicapped spots that don't have handicapped stickers/plates. At $200 per ticket, five tickets per day, 365 days per year equals $365,000. I'm handicapped and have plates on my car, but recently I waited for my wife, who's also handicapped, for a half-hour and no less than four cars were parked in handicapped areas with no noticeable sticker. You know who you are; save these spots for those who need it!

Cigarettes should be illegal

You say us non-smokers just don't get it. Well actually we do get it and you don't. You say you have the right to make unhealthy decisions for yourself. While that may be true, smokers also take away the decisions of others. Do you think a young child in its smoking mother's car decided to be there? When I'm sitting at a stoplight and I can smell the stench of cigarettes from three car lengths away, did I want that? No! Cigarettes should be illegal, just like murder, drugs, etc. These things involve and hurt people against their will.

Why is this allowed?

There are so many parents presently that have our administrators in their clutches, won't they be expecting more playing time for their kid and say over the coaches with such large activity fees? WWI is great in theory, but will only cause more problems for what Brainerd sports already has the parents. I am guessing that the volleyball coach left for more reasons than just business opportunities. Good, young coaches won't even touch Brainerd because of its reputation for letting parents run their programs. Why is this allowed?

Presides not runs

It's high time for Kelly Bevans to step down as president of the city council. He's only presiding over the city council, not running it.

Not many of you around

I'd like to say a big thank you to the gentleman who found and turned in my wallet at the civic center on a Friday night. There aren't too many of you around. Thanks again.

Hope the honors continue

Is it not ironic that the very same day that the banner headlines are of C-I and Brainerd school cuts being unveiled that the very last page of the exact section that has those banner headlines, is a full page honoring Brainerd High School AP scholars? Let's hope we can continue to honor those same number of scholars after all of the cuts.
