Sara Thatcher, a member of the Brainerd High School cross country ski team, skated through the snow of the Paul Bunyan Arboretum Saturday. Many dedicated skiers enjoyed the scenic trails at the arboretum despite the sub-zero temperature.
30 years ago (1978)
Citizens State Bank honored Dr. William Fitzsimmons with the January "Heart of the Month" award. Dr. Fitzsimmons has practiced in the Brainerd area for 39 years. He gave up active practice in July 1977 but has continued to serve as chief of staff at St. Joseph's Hospital.
40 years ago (1968)
One of Brainerd's Golden Glove boxers will receive an engraved watch as winner of the Louie Hansen Award at Saturday night's boxing card. The award was instituted last year in honor of the late Louie Hansen who had served as a Golden Glove announcer for a number of years.
60 years ago (1948)
An All-American, highest rating possible for a school publication, was received by the 1947 Brainonian, WHS annual last week.
80 years ago (1928)
The Dispatch notes with interest and satisfaction an announcement of the Board of Education that a class for young housekeepers is to be started. Girls who intend to be housewives should enter the class.
100 years ago (1908)
Carl Wright has prepared a free skating rink on North Fifth Street for the benefit of the people in that portion of the city. He is keeping it well flooded and cared for.
