Warriors post season-best score

The Brainerd Warriors gymnastics team put together its finest performance of the season to remain undefeated Tuesday.

Its score of 141.075 was a season high and helped them past the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles, who finished with a team score of 120.45.
The Warriors took the top three spots in all four events and grabbed the top two spots in the all-around.
Warriors coach Dave Maras said the key for the Warriors was avoiding a letdown in any event.
"That's the best we've done this year. Every meet it seems like we have one event that holds us back," he said. "Tonight, I thought we did well on all four."

On the uneven bars, Samantha Smith captured first with a score of 9.15, Rebecca Westafer was second with 8.7 and Kelsi Ring third with 8.5.
Olivia Elsenpeter took the balance beam with a score of 8.95. Samantha Smith was second with 8.75 and Melissa Brown third with 8.5.
On floor, Samantha Smith captured her second event of the night with a score of 9.475, the highest score of the meet. Ring was second with 9.15 and Lingwall third with 8.45.
Lingwall took the vault with a score of 9.35, Ring and Samantha Smith tied for second with scores of 9.25.
Samantha Smith won the all-around with a score of 36.625 and Ring was second, posting a score of 34.75.

Maras said the Warriors looked good in all four events Tuesday.
"We started out strong on vault. It was the best bar sets we've had this year. Beam and floor were also very good," he said. "We're just working on getting better. And, it's starting to happen. The score isn't as important as the fact that we actually hit more routines tonight and when you hit routines you're going to score."
