Melvin Christensen, 82, Brainerd, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. He was born in Storden, Minn., on Sept. 15, 1925, to Charles and Orpha (Sorensen) Christensen. He married Vanetta Leibold on Dec. 3, 1948, when he then worked for the tie plant as a fireman. He built a building in Baxter in 1962 where he had Christy's furniture and upholstery business and several other businesses through the years including 371 Liquors. In 1974, he fulfilled his dream of becoming an auctioneer.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Vanetta; his sons, Jim, Larry, Allen, Billy; and one daughter, Sharon Christensen; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; one son; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor Harvey Peterson officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by the VFW Post No. 1647. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.
