Several shots were fired near the Holiday Station Store in downtown Brainerd at 1:39 a.m. this morning, Brainerd Police Chief John Bolduc said.
He said two people were arrested -- a 26-year-old Brainerd man and a 26-year-old Minneapolis man -- on probable cause of assault. More arrests are expected, Bolduc said.
Brainerd police were called to the Holiday Station parking lot because of a complaint of a fight involving several people. Before officers arrived, law enforcement dispatchers received 911 calls of shots fired in that area.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found one man seriously injured. Bolduc said the man was severely beaten. He said he would not release the man's name at this time because it would hamper the investigation. The man was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center. Bolduc said another person, who did not seek medical attention, was slightly injured.
Officers at the scene did recover evidence that gunshots were fired. No one was known to have been injured as a result of the gunshots fired. Bolduc declined to comment about how many gunshots were believed to have been fired and about the type of gun used.
Bolduc said several people were or will be questioned as a result of the incident. He declined to comment about how many people were involved in the fight.
Bolduc said he does not know, at this time, what started the fight. He said those involved were known to each other.
