Melvin D. Eagle

ONAMIA -- Melvin Duane Eagle, 45, Onamia, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, on the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Reservation.

He was born Jan. 29, 1957, in Onamia to Melvin and Delores (Weyaus) Eagle. He graduated from high school and attended St. Cloud State University where he earned his associate in arts degree. He was employed as a carpenter and built several homes around the state.

Survivors include his parents; a daughter, Vala Marie Eagle, Onamia; five sisters, Rosella Eagle, Pamela Eagle and Shelia Benjamin, all of Onamia, and Robina Eagle and Angie Eagle, both of Minneapolis; and two brothers, Brian Eagle, Aitkin, and Roy Eagle, Onamia.

Three sisters, Melvina, Victoria and Annabelle Eagle; and his grandparents, John and Violet Weyaus, Joe Eagle and Katherine Benjamin, died earlier.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Community Center on the Mille Lacs reservation with Lee Staples officiating. Burial will be in Vineland Cemetery on the Mille Lacs Reservation.

Friends may call beginning at 4 p.m. today at Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Community Center.
