Arrests may solve rash of home, cabin burglaries

The recent rash of cabin and home burglaries throughout Crow Wing County may have been solved today.

Three men from Hillman were arrested by Crow Wing County sheriff's deputies early today on Clough Road in Gail Lake Township, northeast of Pine River, after one of the men went to a home seeking help after severely cutting his arm while apparently trying to break into a window at a nearby residence.

Sheriff Eric Klang said that just before 7 a.m. today the sheriff's department received a call from a homeowner on Clough Road, located in the northwest corner of the county, who reported seeing a suspicious vehicle and also that his neighbor's gate had been broken into.

The department then received another call about a suspicious vehicle on the same road. A short time later, Klang said another homeowner on Clough Road called 911 to report that a man had showed up at their home asking them to call for help because he cut his arm severely.

Several homes along Clough Road were found to have been broken into this morning and the three men were arrested by the sheriff's department, with assistance by the Cass County Sheriff's Department, said Klang.

"It was a good day for us, bad day for them," said Klang.

Two of the men were transported to Crow Wing County Jail and are awaiting criminal charges while the injured man was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center by North Ambulance to be treated for his injuries.

There have been several burglaries reported at homes and cabins in the Crosslake and Merrifield areas recently.
