BAXTER - Robert "Bob" Tollefson, age 82, of Baxter, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Brainerd with Pastor Harold Tongen officiating. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 8, from 4-6 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Robert was born Oct. 16, 1925, to Elmer and Laura (Bock) Tollefson in Nokay Lake Township, Minn. He married Ruth Jones on Aug. 15, 1944. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1946. Upon returning to Brainerd, he worked 37 years for the BNNP Railroad and retired in 1981 as a general foreman. He served on the Brainerd School Board from 1966-1971. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church and was an elder for five terms. He also was a member of the board of directors at the Burlington Northern Credit Union several years.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth; three children, Bruce (Judy), of Staples, Patricia McGee (Mike), of Bloomington, and Dave, of Coon Rapids; two brothers, Ray (Jeanette), of Pontiac, Mich., and Don (Joan), of Brainerd; three sisters, Florence Happke, of Pierz, Dorothy Medick, of Omaha, Neb., and Edith Hendricks (George), of Champaign, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Mervin Tollefson.
