The Ski Gull Alpine ski team competed in the first race of the 2004 series Sunday.
Approximately 95 racers competed, including skiers from the Duluth-Superior Alpine Club, Arrowhead Alpine Club, Lutsen Alpine Team and Ashland Alpine Team.

Sophomore boys defeat Apollo
The Brainerd Warriors sophomore boys' basketball team beat St. Cloud Apollo 57-54 Tuesday on a buzzer-beating shot by Landon Stanfield.
Stanfield led the Warriors in scoring with 25 points. Devin Hollingsworth added 12. Brainerd's next game is Friday at home against Rocori.
Wolves mascot to be at Pierz game
Timberwolves mascot Crunch will perform during the Pierz Pioneers boys' basketball game 7:30 p.m. Friday against Kimball.
Rubin repeats as boxing champion
Nate Rubin of Brainerd won his second straight Silver Gloves boxing regional championship last weekend.
Rubin, 125 pounds, decisioned Xavier Ballin for the title and qualified for the nationals in Kansas.
