Plans for the I-500 Snowmobile Race are proceeding apace. The course is laid out, racers from Winnipeg to St. Paul are tuning their sleds for the big day. There's only one problem -- there is no snow.

Sale of Land O' Lakes Cafe on South 6th Street to Les Boeder of St. Peter (former Brainerd resident), was announced today by George Drake and George Tsenes. Boeder is the son of the late Leonard Boeder who operated several cafes in Brainerd.

G.R. (Gil) Tuttle, 53, vice president of First National Bank here since 1953, was elected president succeeding C.W. Boteler, who retired.

Dr. H.G. McGinn was elected president and Dr. R.A. Hallquist was elected trustee of the Minnesota State Veterinary Medical Society at the annual meeting in St. Paul.
80 years ago (1921)
Industry can be stabilized in Brainerd if a large number of small manufacturing concerns can be secured. That is how Minneapolis built up. It should be the aim of the Chamber of Commerce to get such industries in Brainerd. A town can be made greater by working toward increasing the payroll.
100 years ago (1901)
Saturday eve the young people surprised Miss Myrtle Bath, it being her 18th birthday. Later in the evening the old folks surprised those "young-uns," and the melody of their music was spoiled with too many bars.
