ONAMIA -- Gordon Sidney Hanson, 87, Onamia, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Mille Lacs Nursing Home, Onamia.
He was born Dec. 1, 1913, in Rock Lake Township, Balaton, Lyons County, to Nels W. and Mathilda "Tillie" (Shoeberg) Hanson. He attended school in Balaton. Following his schooling, he farmed. He married Lorraine M. Auge on Nov. 17, 1943, in St. Paul. After their marriage, they moved to South St. Paul where he worked in the stockyards and for Armour & Co. until his retirement in 1973. In 1974, the couple moved to Onamia. She died Feb. 17, 1978. He continued to live in Onamia and in 1995 became a resident of the nursing home.
Survivors include two daughters, Susanne Johnson, Onamia, and Judith Hayes, Montgomery, Ala.; one sister, Hazel Swanson, Balaton; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
His wife; four brothers, Willie, Karl, Johnny and Harry Hanson; and two sisters, Helen Swanson and Dorothy Knutson, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Onamia, with the Rev. William NcNiff officiating. Burail will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Onamia. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Shelley Funeral Chapel, Onamia, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Parish prayers will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
