20 years ago (1980)

Brian Wetzel, a newspaper carrier for The Brainerd Dispatch, used a little ingenuity by enlisting the help of his dog Dutchess to deliver his papers. The dog pulls the wagon filled with papers and waits for his master to make delivery to each door on the route before moving on.

30 years ago (1970)

The biggest Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Derby yet got off to a roaring start at Donnybrooke Road Course. Officials said that entries hit the 700 mark, compared with last year's 450.

40 years ago (1960)

Center Dale Brown and guard John Boeder broke up the pattern of earlier Brainerd cage successes, even scoring throughout the starting lineup, ripping the nets for 24 and 21 points apiece as the Warriors handed Staples a 65-57 setback on the Staples court.

60 years ago (1940)

Miss Peggy O'Brien entertained a number of friends at a six o'clock dinner party. Honor guest was Miss Helen Ann Gerber. Guests included Misses Judith Finne, Lucille Gustafson, Janet Smith, Cornelia Nelson, Charlotte Spencer and Bonnie Houle.

80 years ago (1920)

The Police Department on Friday evening raided several pool halls in this city and made arrests for having slot machines and punch boards in their places of business. Gambling of all kinds is forbidden by State law.

100 years ago (1900)

-- Victor Peterson bought a fine team of horses in Iowa last week. They are dandies.

-- Mrs. R.H. Morford is ill with a cold, which we hope will prove to be of a slight nature.

-- "I want you to pull a tooth, but not with gas, that costs too much!"

"Well, you're a brave man, show me the tooth."

"Wait a minute, my mother-in-law will be here right away, it's her tooth."
