Firefighters respond
The Brainerd Fire Department was called at 10:08 p.m. Tuesday to Brainerd High School for what turned out to be a fire alarm malfunction. Firefighters also were called at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday to St. Josephs Medical Center in Brainerd for what turned out to be a fire alarm malfunction.

ACCIDENT
One person was injured in a single-vehicle rollover at 5:24 a.m. Monday on Highway 210, three miles east of Brainerd, the State Patrol reported. The driver, Joan Martin, 49, Brainerd, was treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd and released.

Johnson faces seven more felony counts in robbery
Luke Daniel Johnson, the 23-year-old Staples man already facing felony charges in Cass County following a chase that ended in his shooting by a police officer, has been charged with seven felony counts in connection with an armed robbery of a Motley family.

REMER -- Three administrative law judges found Dec. 29 that Northland Remer-Longville School Supt. Mike Doro and Northland Vote Yes Committee members Patsy Bernhjelm and Jo Boblett, both of Outing, violated Minnesota voting law statutes.

Astrid Beata King, 91, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Dec. 28, 2004, at Woodland Good Samaritan Care Center. She was born Dec. 15, 1913, to Sophus Frederickson and Maren Christine (Hansen) Frederickson in Kensal, N.D. She was a loving mother, homemaker and worked for a number of years at Akre's Bakery and Gift Shop in Nisswa.

It's a new year and a fresh start for the Brainerd City Council as that body elected Kelly Bevans president Monday night.

When our dishonest moral president praised the "new cooperative spirit" between the EPA and the chemical industry there was reason to be suspicious. Bush has a long record of putting industry profits above the health of the public and our environment. Now we know that suspicion was justified.
