STAPLES -- Richard "Rich" D. Marquardt, 53, Motley, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at the Greater Staples Hospital in Staples.
He was born March 13, 1948, in Clarkfield to George and Delphia (Gottshalk) Marquardt. He served two years in the Navy in Vietnam. He married Mary L. Carlson on July 15, 1972, in St. Paul. He graduated from Brainerd Technical College. He was the founder and owner of Marquardt Small Engine and Marine for 17 years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Adam Marquardt, Brainerd; a daughter, Anna Marquardt, Motley; and two brothers, Brian Marquardt, Bemidji, and Kevin Marquardt, California.
His parents and a brother, Douglas Marquardt, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa with Pastor Kurt Wied officiating. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd, with prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and one hour before services at the church. Military rites will be by VFW No. 1647.
