The future Cub Foods is taking shape in northeast Brainerd as the walls for the new grocery store are now in place.
Construction work continues at the East Brainerd Mall location. The Cub Foods store is going up in the former Montgomery Ward store location and in part of the mall vacated earlier for the project.
The Panache salon and spa on Golf Course Road in Baxter is nearing completion. Owner Monica Wentzel said they plan to do a walk through next week and then will complete the interior furnishings. The business does have a trailer set up at the location that is open for business during the day.
Friday Wentzel said they are planning to be open Feb. 1 and will start to train employees next week for hydrotherapy, manicures and pedicures.
The Staples-Motley Area Chamber of Commerce and the Staples-Motley School-to-Work Partnership are sponsoring a project for the first Employer in the Schools on March 27.
The new initiative is designed to bring the business community and the Staples-Motley High School together for a day. Businesses interested in participating may call (218) 894-5422.
Washington Street regulars have changed at the end of 2001. Barb's Botanical Garden left its spot and did not open for Christmas tree sales this season.
The Amoco gas station, Brainerd Discount, at Eighth and Washington streets closed at the end of December.
