Boxing card Saturday at Wadena

The second Golden Gloves boxing card of the season is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Wadena Armory.

Twelve bouts are scheduled with boxers from Wadena, St. Cloud, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes and Duluth.

The main event matches Wadena heavyweight Josh Bahls against Matt Bellenger of St. Cloud. Wadena's Lacey Kuschel will face Jen Lukack of Thunder Bay in a female bout.

Boosters to meet Thursday

The Brainerd Sports Boosters Club will resume its meeting schedule at noon Thursday at the Moose Lodge.

Wrestler Andy Pickar and girls' hockey players Natalie Dunphy and Mandy Hanson will be honored as Warrior Athletes of the Week.

Northern women win 14th straight

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The Northern State University women's basketball team won its 14th straight game with an 87-43 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Monday.

Brainerd High School graduate Sara Hemquist had five points and five rebounds for the Wolves who are 14-1 and in first place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Northern is ranked No. 1 in the North Central Region and 21st in Division II.

The Wolves are at Minnesota-Duluth on Friday and at Bemidji State on Saturday.

Swanson scores 16 for Crookston

MORRIS -- Brainerd High School graduate Angie Swanson scored 16 points but Minnesota-Crookston lost to Minnesota-Morris 70-61 in women's basketball Sunday.

Swanson added 14 rebounds, four blocks and three assists for the Golden Eagles.

Against Northern on Monday, Swanson had six points, six rebounds and three steals in an 87-43 loss. Crookston is 0-13 overall.
