STAPLES -- The Lakewood Health System is offering an American Heart Association CPR class (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday and Jan. 17. The cost is $33.
Also on Monday, Jan. 24, a CPR refresher will be offered from 7-10 p.m. Cost is $17.

First aid class scheduled Jan. 27 in Staples
STAPLES -- The Lakewood Health System is offering an American Red Cross first aid class from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27.
The purpose of the American Red Cross standard first aid course is to train citizens to help people in emergencies. This course teaches the standard first aid skills a person needs to act as the first link in the emergency medical services system.
The focus of this course is to prepare participants to respond correctly in emergencies. The skills and techniques they learn will:
-- Help participants to stay calm in emergencies because they know what to do.
-- Help participants to make decisions and take appropriate steps to keep a victim alive and keep injuries from getting worse until the emergency medical services system arrives.

Blood pressure clinic schedule listed
Lakewood Health System Home Care department sponsors a blood pressure clinic free of charge. Walk-ins are welcome. Following is the schedule:
Staples -- first Friday of every month (Jan. 7), 9-10 a.m., Staples Hi Rise; second Friday of every month (Jan. 14), 9-10 a.m., First Integrity Bank Annex.

Living with Diabetes class offered in Staples
STAPLES -- Lakewood Health System will offer a monthly class titled Living With Diabetes from 7 to 8:30 p.m. the second Monday of each month in the lower level classroom of Greater Staples Hospital.
This class is designed to assist area residents who have diabetes with the management of the condition. Family members of people with diabetes are invited to attend these classes.
Health care providers will speak at each session. The topics for discussion include foot care, preventing complications, counting carbohydrates, medications and managing stress.
The first meeting of Living With Diabetes will be Monday. The topic will be "What's New in Diabetes Management?" There will be an opportunity for participants to share their experiences with diabetes.

Following are the Cass County Public Health adult health clinics for January.
Public health nurses will assess at no charge: health history, blood pressure, blood glucose and medications management. A charge of $7 will be charged for foot care, which will include cutting toenails, ingrown toenails and calluses.
