Aid Association for Lutherans recently presented a $1,275 check to Family of Christ Lutheran School in Baxter through the AAL Member Gift-Matching program.

Kevin Hagen, Little Falls, and Jessica Neptune, Brainerd, are involved with the Criminal Justice Club at Bemidji State University.

Hagen is a senior majoring in criminal justice. Neptune, a junior majoring in criminal justice, is the club's vice president.

Pat Maloney, Staples, is an officer for the Pine Hall Council at Bemidji State University.

Maloney, a junior majoring in social studies education, is the council's president.

Troy Kampen, Brainerd, made the honor's list at The Art Institutes International Minnesota for fall quarter.

Kampen is involved with the computer animation program at the school.

The Brainerd School District and Regional Spelling Bee contests have been announced.

For sixth, seventh and eighth grades, the District Spelling Bee will be held from 8:15 to 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at Mississippi Horizons School cafeteria. Pictures and awards for winning contestants will be at 11 a.m. Qualifying spellers advance to regional competition.

The Regional Spelling Bee will be March 2 at the Staples Centennial Auditorium. The times will be determined at a later date.

For second and third grades, the District Spelling Bee will be held Feb. 16 at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church, 3150 Fairview Road, Baxter. Second-grade spelling rounds will be at 9 a.m. and third-grade spelling rounds will be at 10 a.m. Pictures and awards will be at 11 a.m. Winners will be determined at each grade level.

For fourth- and fifth-graders, the District Spelling Bee will be held at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter on Feb. 17. Fourth-grade spelling rounds will be at 9 a.m. and fifth-grade spelling rounds will be at 10 a.m. with pictures and awards at 11 a.m. Winners will be determined at each grade level.
