ST. CLOUD -- Joe Kahl scored 16 points and Danny Kimman 14 as the Pierz Pioneers beat Melrose 54-37 in the St. Cloud Cathedral boys' basketball tournament Wednesday.
"We played at both ends the whole game," said Pierz coach Kurt Stumpf. "Jordan Loidolt played excellent defense on Jim Gieski, holding him to five points. We were able to control the ball on offense and make good decisions."
Kahl and Kimman were named to the all-tournament team.

CROSBY -- Jon Jasman scored 15 points as the Crosby-Ironton Rangers jumped to a 23-13 first-quarter lead and turned it into a 65-42 boys' basketball victory over Browerville at the Ranger Holiday Tournament Wednesday.
The Rangers finished second in the tournament behind Brooklyn Center. C-I's Tyler Scull made the all-tournament team.

ROCHESTER -- The Staples-Motley Cardinals received 22 points from guard Chad Brever as they defeated Roseville to finish seventh in the Rochester Rotary tournament Wednesday.
Brever nailed four three-pointers. Dustin Greenwaldt and Dan Freeman each added 13 points for the Cardinals (2-6), who trailed 33-28 at halftime.
