The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who have been breaking into fish houses on area lakes.
Joe Meyer, a Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department investigator, said today more than 50 fish houses have been broken into this winter on area lakes. This may be attributed to the lack of snow, which makes it easier for vehicles to get access on the lakes, said Meyer.
Meyer advises anglers to take all equipment out of fish houses when they are done fishing, even if they plan to return the following day.
"No houses are safe," said Meyer. "Just take your personal items out of the fish houses. They're taking everything -- fishing locators, heaters, augers, tackle boxes -- everything."
Meyer requested that people out on the ice report any suspicious activity to the sheriff's department.
To report suspicious activity or information about the break-ins, call Crime Stoppers at (218) 829-0000. Callers can remain anonymous.
