Vernon Lawrence Godfrey

DEERWOOD - Vernon Lawrence Godfrey, age 87 of Bay Lake, died on Dec. 29, 2006, at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

He was born on July 9, 1919, in St. Paul, to Walter and Ameila (Ernster) Godfrey. He married Audrey Zwicky on Sept. 9, 1944, in St. Paul. He was the retired owner of Godfrey Hardware in Deerwood and retired accountant at Armour and Company with 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; two sons, Thomas (Sandra) Godfrey of Backus, Edward (Sherri) Godfrey of Deerwood; two daughters, Judith (Robert) Harding of Brainerd, and Patricia (Oliver) Vang of Deerwood; two brothers, Richard (Gerry) Godfrey of Farmington, William (Lorna) Godfrey of White Bear Lake; 10 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandchild Zack Godfrey, one brother John Godfrey.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Bay Lake Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Koop Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and also one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
