Seniors spark Warriors' shutout

BAXTER - The seniors kicked it up a notch Tuesday, scoring all three goals in Brainerd's final regular-season home match, leading Brainerd to a 3-0 victory over St. Cloud Apollo in a Central Lakes Conference game at Southdale Field.

Zach Hoard picked up two unassisted goals and Zach Meyers kicked in a third with an assist from Wesley Delong.

Goalkeeper Matt Benson, another a senior, registered his fifth shutout of the season, making five saves as the Warriors outshot the Eagles 9-5.

"The power of the seniors was on display tonight," said Brainerd assistant coach Erich Heppner. "They will be missed next year."

The Warriors wrap up regular-season play Thursday night at Buffalo. Section 8-2A quarterfinals begin Oct. 16.
