GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Freshman Jonny Brodzinski scored two goals as St. Cloud State beat North Dakota 3-1 on Friday to take over first place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Sixteenth-ranked St. Cloud State (15-10-0, 12-5-0) entered the game tied with top-ranked Minnesota for the WCHA lead. The Gophers lost, leaving the Huskies alone in first place.

St. Cloud State took a 2-0 lead on goals by Brodzinski and Ben Hanowski in the first period and went up 3-0 on Brodzinski’s second goal at 7:35 of the third period.

St. Cloud State goalie Ryan Faragher had an easy night in goal as North Dakota generated a season-low 16 shots on goal. Faragher had 15 saves.

Rocco Grimaldi scored the only goal for No. 5 North Dakota (13-8-4, 8-5-4).
