JUNIOR HOCKEY: Former Warrior Stearns playing in NAHL

Former Brainerd Warrior Jared Stearns is the backup goalie for the Aberdeen (S.D.) Wings of the North American Hockey League.

Stearns went through the tryout process, starting with the preliminary invite camp in June, then went to the final camp in July. He was one of two goalies selected out of 30 who tried out.

He has played in one game, giving up two goals on 29 shots (.931 save percentage) but lost in a shootout against the Topeka Roadrunners.

“Going into overtime and then a shootout in your first NAHL (game) is nerve-wracking, but fun and exiting at the same time,” Stearns said.

Stearns finished his senior year for the Warriors with a .917 save percentage (third-best all time) and a 1.87 goals-against average (second all-time). He helped the Warriors make the Section 8-2A final in 2012 for the first time since 1991.
