Following a week where she averaged 20.0 points in three games, Aitkin High School graduate Emily Mehr of Minnesota-Morris has been named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball player of the week ending Jan 28.
Mehr led the Cougars to a 2-1 mark, averaging 20.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last week, while shooting 47 percent from the floor as well as 80 percent from the free throw line.
Her best night was a 23-point effort as the Cougars rallied for a 64-56 win against Northland on Jan. 27. Mehr hit nine consecutive free throws to seal the victory. Mehr finished 11-of-12 at the line in the game, the best effort of her career, while her scoring was the second highest of her career and best this season.
In the last six games, Mehr has scored at least 18 points each night, upping her season average to 15.6 per game. At her current pace the junior will break the 1,000-point plateau in the first round of the UMAC Tournament later this month.
Mehr and the Cougars are 9-8 overall, 5-2 in league action and in second place.
