Minnesota coach Kill saddened by Paterno's death

Posted: January 22, 2012 - 5:52pm

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill is expressing sadness at the death of former Penn State coach Joe Paterno.

Kill issued a statement saying, "It's a sad day for football, but a good day for the man upstairs."

He urges people not to forget Paterno's accomplishments during his 61 years with the Nittany Lions. He says Paterno coached more than 100 players per year, so think about how many lives he touched and how many good things he did. He says coaching for 60 years in one place just won't ever happen again.

Kill says he never got to coach a team against Paterno, but he did get to sit next to him at a meeting and have his picture taken with Paterno. He says that's something he'll never forget.
