Cedar Falls Raceway dominated the Team Championship collecting 61 points to take home the Champions trophy at Sunday’s NHRA West Central Division Summit Racing Series Finals at Brainerd International Raceway.
Cedar Fall’s finished 14 points ahead of sister track Eddyville Raceway and 21 points in front of Rock Falls Raceway, who took third in the team standings.
Darrel Goheen picked up where he left off last year, and the year before that, taking his third straight Summit Racing Series West Central Division Championship in the Sportsman class. The Hays, Kan., racer running for SRCA Dragstrip wheeled his ’67 Chevelle to the win over Scott Heintzman, Fargo, N.D.
Goheen posted a 7.654 second pass at 87.84 mph to Heintzman’s 8.188, 85.63. Goheen and the other winners from this weekend will advance to the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship in Pomona, Calif., at Auto Club Raceway in November.
A pair of Minnesota racers will join Goheen in California as Gary Koch, Clearwater, raced to the win over Carl Anderson, Ottamwa, Iowa, in the Super Pro class and Brandon Schmall, Lino Lakes, took the win over Jim Noben, Holmen, Wis., in the Pro class.
Koch went 6.922 seconds at 100.25 mph in his ’65 Oldsmobile in bettering Anderson’s ’95 dragster, while Schmall covered the track in 6.292 seconds on his 6.91 dial-in to beat Noben’s ’68 Camaro.
The Super Pro Bike and the High School categories each saw a pair of Iowa racers advance to the finals with David Primrose, Cedar Rapids, beating Kurt Clark, Davenport, Iowa, in the two-wheel class at 5.702 seconds, 120.17 mph on his Kawasaki. Knoxville, Iowa, racer Megan DeMoss took home the High School trophy in 9.962 seconds ousting Brain Hurley, Waterloo, Iowa, and his ’78 Nova.
