Girls Basketball: Warriors' late rally falls short

Posted: December 23, 2013 - 12:28am

Maria West finished with 19 points to lead the Brainerd Warriors in a 66-56 non-conference loss to Grand Rapids Saturday at Brainerd High School.

The Warriors fell behind by 11 points at the half before outscoring the Thunderhawks in the second half. Kylee Heurung added 11 points and Kathy Johnson added 10 points. Brainerd shot 36 percent from the field.

“We played very hard tonight,” said head coach Troy Nelson. “We struggled to knock down shots in the first half and got behind. We made a run to close the game and got within three points late. We just used so much energy to make our run that we didn’t have enough left to pull out the win.”
