University of Minnesota senior and 2009 Brainerd High School graduate Jared Anderson of Baxter competed in his final Big Ten Championship meet last weekend at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
The senior captain posted a time of 53.24, which was good for fifth place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
This is the third year in a row that Anderson has swam in the championship heat of the 100 breaststroke at the Big Ten Championships.
He also swam the breaststroke leg on the Gophers’ 200 medley and 400 medley relays, both of which finished sixth.
Anderson’s 100 breaststroke time is fifth-fastest in Gopher history and currently puts him in position to be invited to the NCAA Division I Championships March 28-30 at Indianapolis. He’s currently ranked 23rd in Division I in the breaststroke. The NCAA will select the competitors and will release its list of invited swimmers next week.
In addition, Anderson was selected as the University of Minnesota’s recipient of the 2013 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award which was presented the Friday night of the Big Ten championships. Each participating school was allowed to select one senior for the award.
