Area Boys Basketball: Baker's big night helps C-I cook Patriots

CROSBY — Caleb Baker tallied 20 points, nine assists and six steals as the Crosby-Ironton Rangers avenged an earlier loss to Pequot Lakes, rolling past the Patriots 69-43 in a Mid-State Conference game Friday.

The Patriots nipped C-I 52-51 Jan. 8 at Pequot, but the Rangers have won 11 in a row and improve to 19-4 overall, 8-1 in the conference.

Daniel Hudrlik added 15 points and Will Goodwin finished with 13 for C-I.

Brett Peterson led the Patriots with nine points while Jordan Redmond and Travis Jacobson each added eight.

VERNDALE — The Verndale Pirates, led by Josh Gilb’s 13 points and 14 rebounds, won their fourth straight game, 40-34 over Eagle Valley in a Section 5-1A game Friday.

The Pirates swept the season series, winning 77-73 back on Dec. 17.

VIRGINIA — Nathan Ehnstrom finished with 12 points to lead the Aitkin Gobblers in a 64-47 loss to International Falls at the Virginia Tournament Friday night in a Section 7-2A game.

The Broncos held the Gobblers to just 37 percent shooting.
