Cole Smith racked up five points with four goals and an assist to lead the Brainerd Warriors past the feisty Buffalo Bison 7-5 in a Section 8-2A game Tuesday night at Brainerd Area Civic Center.

Smith netted his third goal just before the end of the second period to put Brainerd up for the first time and for good at 5-4. His short-handed goal at 12:53 of the third wrapped up the scoring for the Warriors, who improve to 17-5.

Logan Rivard and Jacob Ellingson each scored a goal and collected three assists while Chris Pohlkamp accounted for the remaining Warrior score.

Brainerd goalie Kyle Helmberger was replaced in goal by Jared Rubado less than two minutes into the second period when Justin Laven scored a power-play goal to put Buffalo up 3-1. Rubado turned aside five shots and gave up a goal before Helmberger returned to the net for the third period and picked up the win, finishing the night with 11 saves.

The Warriors outshot the Bison 36-21.
