PIERZ — Mitch Merlen’s decision win over Ryley Smude was the deciding match for Holdingford as they shocked Class 1A’s eighth-ranked Pierz Pioneers 29-28 in a Central Minnesota Conference dual Friday.
The loss ended a 21-dual win streak for the Pioneers.
Kolton Eischens and Curtis Brisk scored pins for Pierz. The Pioneers built a 22-13 lead before the Huskers scored the next 16 points to take control of the match.
