AREA BOYS BASKETBALL: Bednar leads Pioneers past Holdingford

PIERZ — Mitch Bednar chalked up 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Pierz Pioneers dealt the Holdingford Huskers their seventh straight defeat in a 66-36 Central Minnesota Conference game Thursday.

T.J. Hoheisel scored 14 points, Cullin Carter added 11 and Ben Boser followed with 10 for the Pioneers, who are 6-2 in conference play.

MENAHGA — Beau Howard turned in 21 points in the Pine River-Backus Tigers’ 65-49 loss to the Menahga Braves in a non-conference game Thursday.

Zach Struss added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers, who have lost 16 in a row.

Menahga’s Tanner Schwartz topped all scorers with 38 points.
