LAKEVILLE — The Brainerd Warriors enjoyed a great day at Saturday’s Lakeville South Invite, winning the kick and jazz divisions of the meet.
Brainerd won the jazz competition with four rank points and the kick division with three rank points.
“It was the first time in my coaching career that we left a meet before finding out the results,” Warriors coach Cindy Clough said. “The layout of the meet was such that we would have had to wait three hours after competing for the results. We made the decision to leave and have other coaches call us with the results.
“At this time of year, when the season is so intense, we worry about them getting overtired so made that call. We have two big meets (this) week so need to try to stay healthy.
“So we missed the glory of the win on the floor, but our bus was pretty loud when we found out we won both categories. We were actually rolling into Brainerd when we found out the results.”
The junior varsity Warriors finished eighth in the kick competition.
On Friday, the Warriors performed their jazz routine at the University of Minnesota’s Best Of The Best show.
“It was and honor to be invited and we performed our jazz,” Clough said. ”It was truly a treat to be able to watch the U of M perform their jazz and their pom routine up close. They are simply the best in the nation and it was very inspiring and educational for our team to witness it.”
