The Northern Lakes Lightning girls hockey team will host a fundraiser for the MN Warriors program at their game at 7 p.m. Thursday against Detroit Lakes at the Breezy Point Arena.
The MN Warriors Ice Hockey Program educates, trains, motivates and encourages individuals who have physical or mental disabilities incurred during service to the United States to participate in ice hockey in an environment that is adapted to the level of ability of the participating athlete. It also assists veterans with disabilities and promotes awareness of challenges veterans face and encourages team building.
The program uses hockey to build camaraderie and a sense of community, as well as a connection to the community that supports veterans.
In addition, it assists veterans with disabilities in developing self-confidence and helps participants return to the mainstream lifestyle they were accustomed to before their disabilities.
