GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Jake Ellingson’s goal 3:43 into overtime enabled the Brainerd Warriors to defeat Bismarck High 4-3 in the fifth-place game of the Grand Forks. N.D., tournament Saturday.

Logan Rivard assisted on the score and Brainerd raised its overall record to 6-4-0 by winning two of three games in the tournament.

“We played average for three games,” Warriors coach Jim Archibald said. “There was some good competition there. It was nice to see some different teams. For a Christmas tournament, it was a good tournament. Hopefully we learned a few things and we take those things into the last half of the season.”

It was the Warriors’ sixth overtime game this season. Brainerd battled back from 2-1 and 3-2 deficits Saturday.

“Our guys need to figure out how to play a full 51 minutes so we don’t put ourselves in those positions,” Archibald said.

Ellingson also scored in the second period, again assisted by Rivard, to help Brainerd tie the score 2-2.

Chris Pohlkamp scored twice for the Warriors. His first goal occurred at 5:27 of the first. Pohlkamp’s second goal enabled Brainerd to tie it 3-3 at 9:15 of the third.

Griffin Campbell assisted on both of Pohlkamp’s goals.

Warriors goaltender Kyle Helmberger stopped 16 of the 19 shots he faced.
